The Open Directory

dmoz.org - The mission of open directories is to pool the huge wealth of information available from the general public to compile a database of immense proportions which contains viable data on every topic. Both the best part and problem of directories like this is that while a lot of people DO know a lot of information about certain topics and therefor can write something useful, but at the same time these people could be misinformed and therefor their entry is flawed. This downfall makes open directories really iffy sources for hard information since everything has to be looked at objectively due to possible human error.
